John T. Trout is a partner with the firm and member of the Construction Law and Litigation Practice Groups, where he represents a wide range of business entities in transactional and litigation matters. Specifically, John's practice is focused on:

Prior to becoming an attorney, John owned and managed a commercial concrete restoration business. He brings that direct industry experience and knowledge to work for his clients, who include contractors, subcontractors, owners and suppliers, whom he represents in mediations, arbitrations, and district court actions regarding construction related disputes, including construction and design defects, mechanic’s liens, bonds, delay and disruption, payment, insurance and other disputes.

He also has experience representing clients at the appellate court level, including the successful appeal to the Minnesota Supreme Court in Peggy Rose Revocable Trust v. Eppich, C3-00-1163, 640 N.W.2d 601 (Minn. 2002), a matter involving construction defects, fraud and arbitration.

Licensed to practice law in the state and federal courts in Minnesota, John is a member of the Hennepin County Bar Association and is active in the Construction Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association. He is a member and a director of the Minnesota Concrete and Masonry Contractors Association, a member and former director of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Concrete Institute and the Minnesota Concrete Council. John presents numerous seminars to construction industry professionals and attorneys, and is a frequently published author on the topics of construction law and mechanic's liens and bonds.

John obtained his J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law and completed his undergraduate studies at St. John's University with a B.S. in Accounting.

    PRACTICING WINNING LAW

    -In a recent matter, John successfully challenge the award of a multi-million dollar government construction contract on the basis of biased bidding requirements.

    -John successfully argued a "wet house" case involving misrepresentation of the house by its former owner and realtor, and breach of warranty claims against the builder and material manufacturer. His client recovered an aggregate of $300,000.
